How to Live a Longer and Happier Life

What are longevity zones?

Who would not want to be a hundred years old or older? North American researchers have identified five regions in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the USA with the largest number of centenarians in the world.

These zones are called zones of longevity or blue zones, and consist of exceptionally healthy communities – one of them is Igellösa, where was born the Wellness by Oriflame , in Sweden.

Longevity studies began in 1975 in Okinawa, Japan. Since Okinawa has one of the lowest mortality rates in the world, scientists wanted to investigate and discover the secret of centenarians and other older people in the area.

The study is still ongoing. The goal is to discover the genetic and lifestyle factors that change modem and improve people’s health and life.

The secret to a good life

People in these communities have a healthy way of living and exercise . They try to move as much as possible, such as climbing stairs instead of going to the lift, or walking to the workplace instead of going by car.

They also give priority to social circles that reinforce these healthy behaviors. Above all, they take the opportunity to relax and ensure a balance between work and family.

Eat well, be healthy.

As far as food is concerned, people living in longevity zones have different culinary traditions. However there are small aspects in common. Such as consuming many antioxidant rich foods !

These foods contain antioxidants that protect the body from disease and naturally control signs of hunger.

Another common pattern is eating until you feel about 80% sated. In this way they avoid weight gain and consume usually small portions throughout the day. They eat the smallest meal of the day at night or, preferably, at the end of the afternoon.

People in both zones consume mostly vegetables and legumes and rarely eat meat. If they do, they only consume about 85 grams per serving. People in blue areas only consume these servings five times a month, on average.

In addition, there are many nutrients that have been shown to contribute to the health of people living in longevity zones. Examples are the vitamins, minerals and fibers found in vegetables and fruits, as well as proteins and omega-3 from freshwater fish.

We also have to keep in mind that lifestyle and environment play an important role in the health of people living in the longevity zones.

Of course we can not all live in these zones of longevity. However we can have a healthy life, ensuring the consumption of the same important nutrients already studied and documented for their effectiveness.
