How Commitment Can Help You Succeed

There are few things better than the feeling of starting a new project – committing yourself to it and then realizing it, greatly enhances your confidence. The commitment is easy to express, but it is much harder to put into practice.

The commitment can take many forms, from the relationship with your partner, family, friends or jobs (etc) and means that you are giving something of yourself or of your time to this new project – this builds trust in the relationship and nourishes happiness in the long run.

Being committed creates new habits as a consequence. These habits lead to happiness and create an environment conducive to long-term success. But what are these habits?

Stop saying “tomorrow”

“I need to schedule this meeting,” “I should call my friend,” “I do not want to go to the dentist,” “I’ll do it tomorrow.” How many times have we fallen into the “tomorrow” trap? Committed people view tasks immediately as they arise. If you are committed to a productive life, this will help you keep it under control.

Self motivation

No one is going to commit for themselves, nor take the time to teach you how to do it (unless you’re willing to pay for it). Research and develop your own strategies on how to stay committed to tasks and complete them. Some will work, some will not work, but every day you will need to motivate yourself and become aware of things. No one will be there to remind you.

Develop the imagination

Becoming more committed to something means that you will program your mind to achieve the goals, no matter the obstacles and difficulties that lie ahead. This way of thinking develops your ability to solve problems and stimulates the imagination.

As we grow older, we tend to forget about the power of the imagination; visualize your goals – this will prepare you for the next day and empower you with enough tenacity to achieve your dreams.

Many experts recommend the use of visualization techniques when confronted with obstacles; this is especially useful for those on anxiety, but it can also be used to help in the process of self-motivation.

Think about what you have committed to achieve and visualize how you will do to get there and how you will feel. Did you commit to running a marathon? Visualize how you would feel and cling to it when you start running.

Think positively

Almost all situations can be improved by positivism. Positivism is a very powerful mental tool to develop your confidence and see the best in every situation. Fear of failure is a way of sabotaging your plans, even if you do not believe in it. Positive thinking can help deny these feelings and keep you on the road to success.

All these habits can easily be adjusted to other parts of your life. You will notice improvements in your productivity and motivation in every aspect of your life. Now just get started!
